    Questions people actually ask

    Are my images uploaded to a server?
    No. The compression runs inside your browser using its own image encoder. Your files never leave your device, which is also why it works on a slow connection and why there is no upload progress bar.
    How much smaller will my images get?
    A photo straight from a phone typically drops by 60–80% at a quality setting most people cannot tell apart from the original. Screenshots and flat graphics often do better. Files that are already well compressed may not shrink at all, and DropKB tells you when that happens instead of handing you a bigger file.
    Does compressing remove EXIF data like GPS location?
    Yes. Re-encoding produces a clean file with no metadata attached, so the location, camera model and timestamp your phone recorded are not carried into the version you share.
    Which format should I choose?
    WebP for almost everything — it is smaller than JPEG at the same quality and every current browser reads it. Choose JPEG when the file is going somewhere old or fussy, such as a government upload form. Choose PNG only when you need lossless output or transparency.
    Can I compress to an exact file size?
    Yes. Switch to target size mode and enter a number in KB. DropKB searches for the highest quality that still fits under it. If the target cannot be reached even at the lowest quality, it says so and suggests reducing the width, rather than quietly giving you something too large.
